When RH Morton were looking for Commercial Photographers to take shots of their products in Glasgow and Edinburgh they asked us if we could hep out.
One of the things I love about commercial photography is discovering different business in Scotland and learning about the interesting things they do and make. When you visit a hotel you probably think immediately of the architecture and interior furnishings but a bit like the iceberg that’s only part of the story. So much more goes on behind the scenes and this is what RH Morton specialise in; designing and supplying professional kitchens to some of the best known chefs and hotels in the country.
When they were looking for professional photographs to showcase their products on their website and brochures one of the problems they faced was that as soon as the kitchens are installed they are in constant use. Gaining access wasn’t easy and there was also the added problem that many of the kitchens they wanted to get photographs of had been in use for many years which meant that they weren’t brand new.

Thankfully they managed to arrange access from some of their oldest clients who very kindly found a gap in their diaries and provided staff to help us get what we needed. We started at Martin Wishart’s restaurant in Leith, Edinburgh which is highly regarded and has been a feature of the Shore in Leith for many years. So long in fact that I remember photographing it for the List Magazine’s Eating and Drinking Guide back in 2002.
Although the kitchen had been in use for many years I was surprised at how good the kitchen looked, a testament to the quality of work that RH Morton produce and also the kitchen staff who keep to so clean. We also use some lighting and software techniques which brought out the best features.

After this we then photographed the function kitchen and bar at Seamill Hydro in Ayrshire. RH Morton were keen to highlight the new function bar which is another type of product they fit and supply. There were quite a lot of different lighting sources in the bar so we used our own location studio lighting to help balance this out.
