When NAS Ventures were looking for product photographers in Glasgow, they chose Blink Imaging because of our experience in producing bespoke lifestyle product photography in our studio.
The products in question were a new range of luxury party-ware products, which they wanted photographed for their new website and on e-commerce sites such as Amazon. We were asked to produce some lifestyle images which would show the range of products in a table setting.
For this, we made up some mini sets using a variety of different props and backgrounds such as tablecloths and a ‘marble’ top. The ‘marble’ was in fact printed on paper but when you light it properly and photograph it it’s impossible to tell the difference.
The ‘marble’ in the background of this lifestyle photograph was actually paper with a marble effect printed on it.
In addition to this, we were also asked to photograph the products against white for use in e-commerce. One of the biggest challenges was the fact that all the cups and plates had highly reflective gold or silver rims. As product photographers, the problem when trying to photograph items like this is that they reflect everything. It’s a bit like trying to photograph a mirror but not see yourself in it. Another additional problem was that the cups were transparent. This was challenging because not only were they also quite reflective but you could also see everything behind them.
Fortunately, our Glasgow studio is fully equipped for photographing products like these. For the reflective cups and plates we used a light tent which helps eliminate most of the unwanted reflections by encompassing everything in a white tent. This means that the only thing the products would reflect was the illuminated walls of the tent. With the majority of all the unwanted reflections removed, the photographs required further retouching to remove some minor imperfections in the products and help enhance their overall look.
This lifestyle shot of the full range of products took a couple of hours to arrange and light.
