When Aisling and Martin were looking for Glasgow wedding photographers, they were wanting a photographer who could capture their wedding day in a relaxed, natural way.
Glasgow Wedding Photographers Perspective – Their wedding was held at St. Peter’s Church in Glasgow. Thankfully, Covid restrictions had eased sufficiently for people to be able to attend in large numbers again. I cover about 75% of the wedding day naturally by taking candid photographs of the guests as they are waiting.
After the service, Aisling and Martin and all their guests made their way down to the New Lanark Mill Hotel, which is about 50 minutes drive from Glasgow. I’ve photographed many weddings there over the years, so I’m very familiar with the best locations for wedding photography, although I always do a recce of a location if I’m not familiar with it.
When everyone had arrived, we did some group shots. Although these are set up, I always like to keep them relaxed and natural so they fit in with the rest of the photography of the day. Usually, when I’ve done a few shots of people looking at the camera, I continue taking them when everyone thinks I’ve finished. It’s usually then that you get some wonderful fun shots of everyone together. It’s capturing these little moments that’s most important for me as a wedding photographer.
After the groups, I spent a little time alone with Aisling and Martin. I like to treat this as a time when the couple can have a quiet moment away from the guests and just enjoy spending some time together. Often, I’ll photograph them from a distance so they hardly know I’m there, just making the odd suggestion if I want them to move slightly. A lot of the time I just let couples fall into their own natural poses. I’m really just there to help facilitate that rather than impose anything on them.
Like the wedding ceremony, I cover the drinks reception and speeches naturally as they happen. After the meal, there is usually a little time before the evening reception for some more photos when there is often some nice evening light, especially in the summer, so I took some shots of Aisling and Martin having a stroll through the village. After that it was onto the evening reception, which thankfully due the easing of restrictions as the time meant everyone could have a dance!
