As commercial product photographers in Glasgow, we are asked to photograph a wide variety of different products.
Very often we do this in the studio but clients sometimes like shots which show their products in use, which lends itself more to fashion and lifestyle photography.
Big Bobble Hats are a well known brand, as they were the first to introduce bobble hats with an outsized bobble on top. It has proved to be very popular and they have been going for over 10 years now. They were wanting the photography on their website updated, so they approached us to see if we could create some images for use on the website and general marketing, as well as the standard pack shots for e-commerce.
The ‘models’ were actually friends of the client so we just encouraged them to chat and have a laugh rather than think to much about how to pose.
Fortunately, our studio is very close to Glasgow Green, which proved to be an ideal location for photographing the hats. All we needed were some models and sunshine!
The client wanted to show the hats ‘in use’ as they are popular with people doing outdoor sports like jogging.
When photographing products like this outdoors, the location is very much there as a background. All we were looking for in the shots was the hint of park environment. The hats had to be the star of the photographs so everything else was thrown out of focus to make sure nothing distracted from them.
It might look superimposed but this shot was actually done as a single image on location.
Another advantage of Glasgow Green is the People’s Palace so it proved the ideal place for a mid morning coffee break during the shoot!
