Glasgow Commercial Case Study – It’s always interesting to learn about different types of business and each one brings it’s own set of challenges. We do feel a bit like superheroes at times, waiting for that call to the bat cave to discover what the next assignment is. We then ‘rush’ to the scene to put our skills and equipment to use in the next exciting chapter.
We used some extra location lighting to help make this staff member stand out against the windows.
Ok, so the analogy isn’t entirely accurate, as we usually arrive at the scene after a number of emails, calls and sometimes a meeting to go over the brief in more detail. However, every shoot is unique and you need to use your skills as commercial photographers to adapt to the subject.
The client required a variety of photographs illustrating all the different cleaning jobs that are undertaken.
The subject in this case was a company who have contracts providing commercial cleaning services to a number of UK clients such as supermarkets. One of the challenges was taking photographs in a working supermarket, whilst still producing strong images that illustrated the types of work that they do.
For the case study the client required shots of the floor cleaning machines at work.
Fortunately, as commercial photographers in Glasgow, we have a lot of experience in this type of work. One of the key ingredients is portable location lighting which enables us to light the subject without the need for trailing cables – all the lights are triggered wirelessly from the camera. We also carry a wide range of lenses which allow us to tackle different situations. The other key ingredient is down to experience – working safely so you’re not creating any trip hazards for members of the public and being sensitive to the fact that you are in a working environment. Working quickly and effectively is also important. If your are going to close off an aisle of the supermarket to get a shot, then you need to do it quickly before the shoppers make a stampede for the fruit and vegetables!
This was quite a difficult shot to get as we needed to show the staff member and the cleaning action of the squeegee very clearly. We had to spend some time positioning all the elements so they could be seen without the supermarket shelves in the background becoming distracting.
