As commercial interior photographers based in Glasgow we work with clients all over Scotland. One recent shoot took us to Stirling to take interior photographs of the recently refurbished Hotel Colessio in Stirling.
Carrying out the work during the Covid restrictions actually made the job easier this time, as the hotel was closed and had a skeleton staff which made it very easy getting about and setting up the camera and lights. In normal times, this would need to be carefully co-ordinated between ourselves and the hotel as what what rooms were available. Areas like the bar and restaurant would also need to be photographed when they were set up and free from members of the public.
This private dining area was a nice one to capture. Although there was some nice mood lighting in the room we supplemented this with additional lighting.
One specific thing the hotel wanted us to capture was the effect of the evening light in the restaurant, which had a nice view of the city and hills in the distance.
We therefore timed the shoot so we’d be in the restaurant around 6pm and capture the effect of the evening light which made for a nice shot.

When photographing interiors for hotels we always bring along portable lighting to help create the right mood by supplementing the available ambient light. Portable lighting also means that there are no trailing wires for people to trip over and they are easy to hide and keep them out of shot.
We finally do some extra retouching on the interiors which can be used to remove unwanted things such as exit signs and enhance the overall scene.
This was quite a difficult shot to capture due to the large mirror which runs the whole length of the bar. The lights had to be carefully hidden so they wouldn’t show up in the shot.
