As creative advertising photographers, it’s always a delight to work with Glasgow based theatre company Rapture. We have worked with their director Michael Emans for many years, creating publicity photographs as well as photographing their theatre productions.
Rapture theatre company latest production, The Red Lion by Patrick Marber is currently on tour in Scotland including Glasgow and Edinburgh. Set in the locker room of a small football club, it deals with life and politics through the lives of the club’s manager, coach and star player.

Michael spends a great amount time carefully putting together a strong cast for his productions, so he is always keen to bring this to the fore in any advertising images. As photographers, the challenge is to create very strong eye-catching images with very few elements. Time is also often limited as any publicity shoots are usually fitted in between breaks in rehearsals.

Previously we’ve done publicity shoots in our Glasgow studio but on this occasion we needed something in the background which would suggest the locker room environment where the play is set. Fortunately, just outside our studio, is a glazed brick wall very similar to the same type of tiled wall you might find in a locker room. It was therefore just a simple matter of setting up some lights on location to create some mood and atmosphere plus some extra post production on the images to give them the right look.

Michael always likes to have a series of images, one main one for the poster, a second variant of the image for social media and individual portraits of the cast. We make sure the images all appear to be part of the same campaign, we keep a consistent look throughout all the images.

We produced this variant of the main poster image for use on social media.
