As photographers, we often take business portraits and corporate headshots at our studio in Glasgow but we also regularly do this on location at a client’s offices as this is often handier in terms of people’s time.
Many of the people being photographed had come up from London and other parts of the country, so the client wanted to make the best use of their time. This meant we had to do a variety of different set ups for each person, so they would have a selection of different images ranging from corporate headshots and business portraits to shots which could be used for editorial and PR purposes.
There were a lot of black walls in the offices so we had to subtly light these so people didn’t completely merge into the background.
For the business headshots the client wanted full length as well as head and shoulders shots. This involved setting up a full studio background and lighting at their premises.
In order to keep set up time to a minimum, we used a separate set of portable lights for the more editorial portraits so we could shoot at different locations in the offices. This allowed us to keep things fresh so we weren’t using the same background for all the shots.
In order to keep all the shots fresh we used a variety of different locations for backgrounds.
As photographers, we always like to get relaxed natural shots of people when taking corporate headshots or business portraits so we spend a bit of time chatting to people to help them relax.
People often comment that they don’t feel like they’ve had their portrait taken, which is always a compliment as it means they were relaxed and natural.
We had to set up a full size studio background and lighting at the client’s premises in order to take these shots.
